In 1908, in the Hamgyong province, the independence forces led by Ahn Jung-geun achieved a significant victory against the Japanese army. As the chief of staff of the Korean Independent Army, Ahn made a controversial decision to free prisoners of war, adhering to international law, despite opposition from many of his comrades. This act demonstrated his commitment to principles of justice even in the face of adversity. A year later, in Vladivostok, he reunited with fellow patriots who shared his vision of reclaiming their lost homeland.
