Um Hong-gil, the most famous Korean mountaineer, has completed 38 expeditions in the Himalayas. From 2000 to 2002, he climbed the peaks of Kangchenjunga, K2, Shishapangma, and Everest alongside his friend Park Moo-taek. In 2005, while descending from the summit of Everest, Moo-taek lost his life in an accident. To retrieve his body, Um Hong-gil, alongside his team, organized a historically unprecedented expedition at 8,750 meters above sea level, in the Death Zone of Mount Everest.
