Biography

One of the most popular directors on the modern South Korean scene, IM Sang-so was born in Seoul in 1962, the son of a well-known film critic. He graduated in sociology in 1986, while in 1989 he graduated from the Korean Academy Films of Arts. Before embarking on a career as a director, he worked as an assistant to Park jong-won in Kuro arirang and to Kwon-taek for General son and General son II (1990 and 1991). He moved on to screenwriting, again for Park jong-won for Eternal Empire, after producing Pirate by Park seong-bae. Her first work, Girls' Night Out, was invited to participate in competition at the Pusan Film Festival, later winning the Korean blue dragon awards, and raising much controversy for its explicit sexual content.
