Biography

Born in 1929, Kim so-yong is a legendary figure in the Korean film industry. He made his debut in 1958 with and directed more than 100 films until 1999 with . He has made many popular commercial films of the last few decades, such as (1965) and about 50 literary films based on popular Korean novels such as (1965) and (1967). He was the first film director to hold the position of president of the prestigious [Accademia Nazionale delle Arti]. As chairman of the Korea Media Rating Board from 1998 for six years, he helped loosen censorship criteria on films.
