South Korean film star and Oscar winner Bong Joon-ho guest speaker at the 21st Florence Korea Film Fest in Florence on April 6

Bong Joon-ho, award-winning director and Oscar winner in 2020 joins the roundup of guests from the 21st Florence Korea Film Fest, the most important Italian festival dedicated to the best of the South Korean contemporary cinematography, which will again this year bring films, documentaries and movie stars to Florence from March 30 to April 7 at La Compagnia cinema and online on the Più Compagnia and MyMovies platforms.

Bong Joon-ho returns to Florence – where he was already a guest at the festival in 2011, when he was awarded the festival prize and honored with a retrospective of his films – from Oscar-winning For an exclusive masterclass titled “Geometries of Gaze.” (Thursday, April 6, 3 p.m. at La Compagnia cinema) on his cinema and his multifaceted artistic journey (registration information at www.koreafilmfest.com). His blockbuster works include The Host (2006), among the most-watched films in South Korea; Mother (2009) and Memories of Murder (2003) until the worldwide success of Parasite, an Oscar-winning film in 2020.

“We are happy,” Gelli explained, “to host Bong Joon-ho again in Florence, one of the most appreciated directors in the film scene not only in South Korea, but – after his Oscar victory – also worldwide. With his varied artistic path, the director represents the explosion of the new Korean cinema, a market in constant evolution.”

The evening of April 6 at La Compagnia Cinema will also feature a screening of the film Mother in the original black and white version, the film is chosen in collaboration with the same director who chose the copy, the film will be presented with Bong’s participation, this is a style of Bong Joon-ho making color films and in the Black and White version as well as in the film The Host.
