Biography

Jay Jeon (Jeon Yang-joon) was born in 1959 in Seoul, South Korea. She has a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication from Sung Kyun Kwan University. Jay was one of the founding members of the East-West Film Group as part of the Goethe Institute in the early 1980s. Their major projects included progressive films about the movement of society. He edited a few publications that featured world filmmakers and also launched a quarterly magazine called Film Language, which brought the broadest and deepest interest and analysis to new Korean films. Since the early 1990s, he has been interested in film production. Tales of City, directed by Lee J-yong, is one of his first works as a producer. Jay also worked as an associate producer for Lee Kwangmo’s Spring in My Hometown and as a co-producer on Lee Chang-dong’s world-famous films: Peppermint Candy and Oasis. In 1995 he produced the television documentary An Odyssey in the world of cinema. In 2005, he was awarded the Cultural Medal for Promoting Korean Films Worldwide. He is now the director of BIFF – Busan International Film Festival.
