Biography

Bae Chang-ho was one of the most successful directors during the 1980s, directing many fine melodramas about the new sensibility of the younger generation. His first film "People in a Slum" (1982) and subsequent films "Whale Hunting", "Deep Blue Night" and "Our Sweet Days of Youth" generated enthusiasm among cinephiles and discerning moviegoers alike. "Deep Blue Night" was shot mainly in the United States, when it was not yet easy to shoot abroad. Despite his success, Bae has always refused to fossilize on a single style. Since the 80s he has always sought new artistic forms. From a creator of blockbusters in the 80s, he has transformed into the director of independent films such as 1999's "My Heart" and 2004's "Road".
