Leos Carax, in addition to being a director, is also a French actor and film critic. He made his debut in 1980 with Strangulation Blues and soon became, together with Luc Besson, the most important exponent of the "cinéma du look", which in the eighties opened French cinema to contamination with the languages of television advertising and video clips. His greatest success is the melodrama Les amants du Pont-Neuf (1991), starring Juliette Binoche and set in Paris. His last films as a director include Sans titre (1997) and Pola X (1999).
