Seoul, 1971. Kang has a degree in Sociology from Korea University, and specialized in Film Studies. He shoots numerous short films, and collaborates as an assistant on films such as Three Friends by Lim Soon-rye and Memento Mori by Min Myoo-dong and Kim Tae-yong. He made his directorial debut in 2005 with Sakwa.
