Kim Ji-hoon, born in 1971, studied film directing at Hanyang University and began his career with the short film "Greenhouse" in 1997. His first feature film "Mokpo, Gangster's Paradise" (2004), originally conceived as a pure action noir film, then became a comedy, which brought more than 2 million spectators to cinemas. He then directed "May 18" (2007), and "Sector 7" (2011), a 3D film about a battle with an unidentified life form on an oil ship in the middle of the ocean. Kim directed another disaster movie titled "The Tower." After a long hiatus, he returns in 2021 with a totally different approach to the disaster genre, directing "Sinkhole".
