After studying German at the University of Seoul, he dedicated himself for a few years to teaching and writing, publishing books for children. He made his debut as a director in 2002, dedicating himself to the creation of short films until 2010, the year in which "Passerby #3" was released, followed by "Pluto" (2013) and "Madonna" (2015) presented in the Un Certain Regard section at the 68th Cannes Film Festival.
