Born in Seoul in 1982, Shin began as a writer, but starting in 2001 he signed some screenplays for independent works and began to devote himself to films. He thus founded his own production company, Dolphiners Film, with which he made his directorial works: Versus (2011), Encounter (2012), Tramp and D-24 (2013).
