Biography

YU Hyun-mok, is one of the most popular Korean directors, born in 1925, he made his film debut in 1956. A gritty and almost neorealist social drama, it is widely considered one of the greatest Korean films of all time and often occupies the top spots in the rankings of the best Korean films of all time. Beyond his early comparisons to Italian neorealism, YU has also been acclaimed for his highly intellectual and modernist approach to cinema. In addition to his films, YU contributed to the Korean animation industry by producing the feature film (1976) and was a professor of film for many years. YU died of a stroke on June 28, 2009.
