Jung Jae-il Concert with the Florentine Chamber Orchestra

Jung Jae-il, South Korean composer known for the soundtracks of “Parasite” and “Squid Game”, will give a unique concert at the Teatro Verdi. A multifaceted musician, he has worked in various genres and collaborated with various Korean artists. His music, including the famous soundtracks of “Parasite” and “Squid Game”, mixes classical, electronic and minimalist elements, intuitively underlining tensions and contradictions.
The concert will be accompanied by the Florentine Chamber Orchestra, in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Institute to celebrate the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Korea.

A concert not to be missed for film and music lovers: Saturday 30 March, at the Teatro Verdi in Florence, a one-of-a-kind event will be held, which will feature Jung Jae-il, the South Korean composer who has signed the soundtracks of some of the most acclaimed films and TV series of recent years, such as “Parasite” and “Squid Game”.

Jung Jae-il, born in 1982, is a multifaceted musician, ranging between different genres and styles, from classical to jazz, from pop to rock, from folk to rap. He began his career as a pianist and keyboardist, collaborating with various Korean artists, including singer-songwriter Lee Juck and Ann Sook Seon who is the national treasure of traditional Korean music. He made his debut in 1997 working in an orchestra. In 2009, he made his debut as musical director for the film “Marine Boy”, directed by Yoon Jong Seok. Since then, he has worked on numerous film and television projects, including “Wish” directed by Lee Sung Han, “The Sea Fog,” directed by Shim Sung Bo and produced by Bong Joon Ho, “Broker” directed by Koreeda Hirokazu, “Okja,” “Parasite” directed by Bong Joon Ho, and “Squid Game” directed by Hwang Dong Hyuk. Among his most famous works, the music of “Parasite”, the film by Bong Joon-ho, stands out. Jung Jae-il has created an original and evocative soundtrack, which mixes classical, electronic and minimalist elements, and which emphasizes the tensions and contradictions of the story. Among the most memorable tracks, there is “The Belt of Faith”, which accompanies the scene of the escape from the Park house, and “Soju One Glass”, which expresses the bond between the father and son of the Kim family.

Equally appreciated were the music of “Squid Game”, the Netflix TV series that conquered audiences all over the world. Jung Jae-il composed a soundtrack that alternates moments of tension, drama, irony and nostalgia, using instruments such as the piano, violin, flute and synthesizer. Among the best-known tracks, there is “Fly Me to the Moon”, a reinterpretation of Frank Sinatra’s classic, which becomes the theme song of the series, and “Red Light, Green Light”, which serves as the backdrop for the first test of the game.

For the concert at the Teatro Verdi, Jung Jae-il will be accompanied by the Florentine Chamber Orchestra.

The concert is in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Institute to celebrate the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Korea.
