Biography
Shin Sang-ok was a prolific South Korean producer and director with over 100 titles as a producer and 70 as a director. His best-known films were made in the 50s and 60s, when he was known as the "Prince of Korean Cinema". He received the Cultural Medal of the Golden Crown, the country's highest honor for an artist. He is also known for being kidnapped by the previous North Korean leader, Kim Jong-il, for the purpose of producing critically acclaimed films. Born Shin Tae-seo, he then changed his name to Shin Sang-ok when he started working in the film industry.
