Yoo Ha was born in Gochang in 1963. He graduated in English literature at Sejong University, and deepened his film studies at the Department of Film and Digital Media at Dongguk University. Artistically born as a poet, in 1988 he won the prize for debut writers organized by the Moon-ye-joong-ang literary magazine, and then also won the Kim so-young Literature Award in 1996. He made his film debut as a director with a film based on his collection of poems, "We Must Go to Apgujung-dong on Windy Days", in 1993.
